Sunrise Man Accused of Using Bitcoin on Dark Web to Purchase Child Sexual Abuse Material

A Sunrise man was arrested after investigators said he used Bitcoin to purchase child sexual abuse material through the dark web, according to court records.

According to a Sunrise Police Department arrest report, Luis Miguel Moreno, 29, was arrested August 11 and charged with one count of computer pornography involving a minor.

Investigation records show law enforcement first began looking into Moreno’s actions after the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a CyberTip in September 2025 from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Investigators said the tip originated with Block Inc./Cash App and involved suspected cryptocurrency payments connected to the purchase of child sexual abuse material.

Police alleged that a Cash App customer identified as Moreno sent Bitcoin payments to cryptocurrency addresses associated with suspected sellers of illegal child abuse material. The transactions were traced to an Internet Protocol address associated with an anonymizing VPN service, according to the affidavit.

Investigators said information associated with the account, including names, phone numbers and email addresses, was later obtained through subpoenas issued to companies including Cash App, Verizon Wireless and Google.

Investigators also reviewed cryptocurrency addresses through a company that tracks activity on darknet and Tor-based websites. According to police, some of the addresses were associated with a site advertising sexually explicit material involving children.

Police obtained search warrants for Moreno’s cellphone and his Sunrise residence, which were executed August 11. According to the affidavit, Moreno spoke with investigators and allegedly admitted using onion-browser websites to view and purchase illegal material with Bitcoin.

Police said Moreno also admitted to completing cryptocurrency transactions to obtain the material and later deleting both the Cash App and the VPN applications he said he had used to conceal his internet activity.

Moreno was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
