The Sunrise Middle School track and field team competed in a regional competition on Tuesday at Coral Springs High School, highlighted by their relay teams.
The boys’ team took first overall and also won the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400 relay races. Dominic Smith also shone, coming in second place in the 400 meters, while Ayden Metellus and Casen McDowell came in fourth in the shot put and discus. Jaiden Banks also had a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters, with Aaron Zapata coming in ninth in the 800 meters and finishing in the same spot in the 100 hurdles.
Travon Hickson, Pryce Quartman, Xavier Edwards, Damaris Rainey, Jerry Dawkins, and Travis Ward all competed on the track, with McDowell also competing in the shot put. At the same time, Cai’Yenne Pwtterson and Chrishuan Stewart participated in the long jump.
The girls’ team also won the 4 x 400 relay and placed second in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays. Chelsea Milligan came in third in the 1600 meters, with Liviana Sandoval placing fourth and Mia Barnes in sixth.
Taraji Herring placed fourth in the shot put and discus, Kailee Ramirez finished fifth in the 100 hurdles, and Julia Berman came ninth in the 400 meters. Aniyah Sylla, placed just outside the top ten along with Audra Gadson, Madison Jones-Harris, Marissa Cadet, Michaela Gayle, and Madison Ramirez, all competed.
