A 15-year-old boy stabbed at Winston Park and Nature Trail in Coconut Creek on April 20 died from his injuries Friday, according to his mother and police.
Iury Daniel De Sena, a student at Lyons Creek Middle School in Coconut Creek, was stabbed repeatedly by an unidentified attacker.
Police waged an intensive search of the woods at the property after the stabbing but said the killer – who fled the crime scene – was not in the searched area. Authorities have not announced an arrest in the case.
“I need your help to find who killed my son … a beautiful child full of life,” De Sena’s mother wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday. “My son is not here to hug me to go to school, but I know that God will give me strength, and I will count on the community [to] help.”
The grieving mother said she was coming forward because she wanted her son’s killer to be caught. She asked that her name not be published.
The Coconut Creek Police Department confirmed the stabbing victim had died but did not comment on his mother’s statement.
Investigators believe an attacker stabbed De Sena around 4:16 p.m. at the park and ran into the woods afterward. Police from Coconut Creek, Margate, Coral Springs, and a Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter spent hours searching for the person or people involved in the killing.
“Thank God someone found my son inside the forest, and my son went by helicopter [to the hospital] where he had two cardiac arrests” and underwent two surgeries for his stab wounds, De Sena’s mother said in an online message to Coconut Creek Talk. “His body became weaker because of all the blood he lost, and he ended up dying [April 26].”
“We have no idea who did this to him, so if you live in this area of Coconut Creek, if you see anything or you know something, please speak out.”
De Sena’s mother said her son’s killing has caused “suffering that ended the life of my family forever.”
“These people who are monstrous have to be found, so they don’t do this to anyone else’s son,” she wrote.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the boy’s family.
Police on Thursday asked residents of the Hilton Estates, Cypress Estates, Huntington, and Breckenridge West communities to share with them any doorbell or surveillance video from their properties taken on April 20 between 3:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Investigators have “been working non-stop” on the stabbing investigation and “have developed several strong leads as a result,” police said in a written statement.
“We are specifically interested in any juvenile, or juveniles, your cameras might have picked up on that day, during that time frame.”
Police have not provided a description of the killer.
Anyone with video can coordinate their sharing the footage with police by emailing Coconut Creek Police official Scotty Leamon at sleamon@coconutcreek.net.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Coconut Creek Police at 954-973-6700.
