Gino Portillo Garcia {BSO}
A Sunrise man was arrested after an investigation alleged he failed to remit more than $100,000 in state sales tax collected through a used-car dealership he managed.
According to Sunrise Police Department records, Gino Portillo Garcia, 41, was taken into custody on January 8 following a traffic stop in the area of the 8900 block of Northwest 21st Manor. Police say the stop stemmed from an active felony warrant for theft of state funds.
Records indicate that investigators allege Portillo Garcia misappropriated state funds by failing to remit sales tax collected through G&P Group Services LLC, which operated as One A Motorsports, a used motor vehicle dealership based in Hollywood.
Investigators allege the offense occurred from 2023 through late 2024. State investigators report that during that period, the business collected sales tax on vehicle purchases but failed to remit more than $119,000 to the Florida Department of Revenue. Authorities say Portillo Garcia oversaw daily operations, including financial matters and vehicle title transactions.
The investigation determined that although sales tax returns were filed, the amounts reported and remitted were significantly lower than the amounts actually collected from customers.
Portillo Garcia was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He is currently being held on a no-bond status.
