The North Broward Prep baseball team traveled to Alabama to compete in the Perfect Game showcase, which featured some of the top teams in the country.
The Eagles, who won the State Championship two of the last three years, came into the tournament ranked 24th in the nation. NBP won 3-2 in their first game against American Christian Academy on Thursday behind 6.1 scoreless innings in relief from Jose Rodriguez. At the same time, Gian De Castro, Riley Luft, and Nikolas Koorse had RBIs.
In their second game, the Eagles won 6-2, with A.J. Cutler hitting a two-run home run and recording an RBI single. Luft and De Castro had RBIs again, with Mateo Gray earning the win after six scoreless innings in relief before their 4-0 win against Spain Park in the Semifinals. Nikolas Koorse won, and Filippo Baldassarri pitched the final two innings to record the shutout before winning 7-1 in the final over Lewisberg. De Castro and Cutler drove in three runs, while the Eagles scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.
NBP went on to beat Chaminade Madonna High School on Tuesday and is 7-1 this year. They are now ranked seventh in the county and will play again on Thursday against Miller School of Albemarle on Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
