A former Margate Medical & Rehab employee faces grand theft charges and has been accused of embezzling over $330,000 from the business for nearly two years.
According to Margate Police Department arrest records, Louise Felicia Pierre, 40, of Port Saint Lucie, employed at the medical practice, was responsible for depositing patient checks from various insurers into the company’s bank account at TD Bank.
According to TD Bank records, starting on September 15, 2022, Pierre began depositing many of the business’s checks into two other accounts linked to separate companies under “Notary Connection and Services LLC,” for which she is the sole signer.
Arrest records show that an investigation into the theft found that the business, listed under her name as the registered agent and manager on sunbiz.org, allegedly appears to have been a vehicle for diverting funds.
Authorities say from September 2022 through July 2024, 207 checks amounting to $330,805.66 were allegedly funneled into these accounts, with large sums then transferred to Pierre’s personal bank accounts.
Records show the activity was first discovered when the business owner noticed discrepancies in the financial records.
The victim also recalled to law enforcement that in July 2022, Pierre claimed the business’s endorsement stamp had gone missing, prompting the purchase of a new one. Unbeknownst to the victim, Pierre allegedly continued using the original stamp to deposit checks into her accounts, all while logging the checks into the business’s records as if they had been deposited correctly.
According to law enforcement, Pierre’s careful manipulation of funds and records showed that everything was in order, which is how the scam continued for a prolonged period.
The victim stated that Pierre appeared to adjust the amount of money she embezzled relative to the business’s monthly income, likely in an attempt to avoid raising suspicion.
Following an investigation into the matter, Pierre was taken into custody on August 13.
She remains in custody with a bond set at $155,000.
