Through our joint effort with the Margate Police Department to share updates with residents, this is a summary of Margate’s crime and arrests through March 19.
Carrying Concealed Weapon
The subject was observed driving a black tow truck matching the description of a vehicle stealing cars in Margate with no tag near Rock Island Rd and Courtside Lane. The subject had stopped in a house’s driveway in Margate, next to a high-end vehicle, and was observed by detectives. The subject was ultimately stopped and was in possession of a firearm. Further investigation revealed that the truck was not registered. Post Miranda, the subject lied multiple times about his whereabouts. Special Operations arrested him.
Vehicle Burglary
A Victim of Vehicle Burglary occurred when 5-6 suspects were seen on foot on Vizcaya Circle pulling on vehicle handles overnight. (3) vehicles were broken into via unlocked doors. Cash, Credit Cards, and a wallet were stolen from the victims’ vehicles, a 2017 Cadillac, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, and a 1983 Seville Street – Dodge Challenger, where a 9mm pistol was stolen.
A Victim of Vehicle Burglary on N State Road 7 when the victim’s 2023 Chevrolet Traverse was broken into – window smashed – while the victim was dropping off her child at school. A purse on the front seat was stolen.
A Victim of Vehicle Burglary on Martin Road occurred when a tall male with a mustache and short hair wearing a blue shirt and long pants entered the victim’s unlocked Toyota Tundra. The suspect stole a large bag containing misc tools valued at $300.00.
Vehicle Theft
A Vehicle Theft on 56 Avenue in Cross Creek occurred when a white 2019 Ram 1500 was last seen in the parking lot.
A Stolen Vehicle on Harbor Bend occurred on March 16. A 2016 lifted, white Chevy Silverado with aftermarket exhaust was stolen.
A Stolen Vehicle on March 17, at O’Malley’s Sports Bar on N State Road 7. The victim noticed that his 2007 white Mercedes GL450 was missing.
A Stolen Vehicle happened when the victim left her brother’s 2016 Lexus GS350 parked in the Fire Lane of the Smoke Shop. She observed a W/M looking into the windows of the car. The W/M entered the driver’s side as she returned to the vehicle. The victim grabbed the rear passenger door handled and attempted to open the door. The W/M subject drove off while still holding on, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain minor abrasions.
Federal Warrant Arrest
A Federal Warrant Arrest was made at 61 and Southgate Blvd. The suspect was under surveillance by detectives per the request of the US Marshals Office. The suspect was observed exiting a residence on SW 61 Avenue and was taken into custody without incident by Special Operations.
Retail Theft
Harbor Freight was the Victim of Retail Theft at 5365 W Atlantic Blvd when two unknown males stole $331.98 worth of merchandise. They left the area in a white BMW X3.
Arrests
Cotto, Kimarni, was arrested on a charge of Throwing Deadly Missiles at 370 Rock Island Road. The subject intentionally threw a brick at the subject’s moving vehicle. The victim does not know the subject. The victim could positively identify the subject who was placed under arrest.
Trudell, Donna Ann, was arrested on a Fraud Utter False Instrument/Grand Theft charge when she walked into Synovus Bank with a fraudulent check of $3,000. Trudell attempted to cash the check but was intercepted by bank staff.
