A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in the killing of a man in North Lauderdale last year.
Anthony Lemons, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested on March 11, 2024, for the March 27, 2023, murder of Taris Jackson, 23, in an apartment at 7471 S.W. 10th Court in North Lauderdale, according to court records and the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators worked diligently for nearly a year to solve Jackson’s murder before BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) unit, in collaboration with BSO’s Fugitive unit, arrested Lemons, according to BSO.
Shortly after the shooting, BSO deputies responded and found Jackson suffering from a single gunshot wound to the stomach. North Lauderdale Fire Rescue also responded and rushed Jackson to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Investigators detained multiple family members of Jackson who were present at the scene for questioning. One juvenile family member was arrested for obstruction at the time, authorities said.
Through their investigation, detectives said they identified Lemons as the shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested in North Lauderdale while in possession of a weapon, authorities said.
According to court records, Lemons is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, records show.
