A man faces charges of domestic battery by strangulation after choking his girlfriend, who caught him in bed with another woman.
On June 11, Matthew Clay Allison, 35, of Coral Springs, was arrested for allegedly battering and strangling his girlfriend. According to the report, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident near the 11300 block of Heron Bay Boulevard.
Upon arrival, the victim told officers she had arrived at the residence to confront Allison about suspected infidelity and discovered Allison in bed with another woman upon entering.
According to a statement provided to CSPD by the victim, the assault unfolded after an argument between herself and Allison, and escalated to a physical confrontation that progressed to a point in which he allegedly grabbed her by the throat, threw her onto the bed, and began choking her.
The victim described to CSPD a prolonged struggle to breathe to the point that she fought numerous times to prevent losing consciousness.
Eventually, the victim told officers she freed herself from Allison’s grasp, escaped the apartment, and contacted law enforcement.
According to the arrest report, investigators observed redness, scratches, and other injuries on the victim’s neck, face, arms, and back.
After interviewing the victim, officers focused on receiving Allison’s side of what transpired. Allison reportedly denied to officers that he had choked the victim and claimed that she had attacked him but could not explain her injuries.
Records show the woman who had been in bed with Allison during the incident had left the residence before CSPD’s arrival and, when contacted by phone, stated that she left before the physical confrontation and did not witness Allison strangling the victim.
Considering the evidence and circumstances, including the victim’s injuries and statements, CSPD determined that Allison should be taken into custody.
Police note in the arrest report that Allison complained of feeling ill following his booking, leading rescue to respond and transport him to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical attention and clearance.
Once medical clearance was granted, Allison was subsequently transported to the Broward County Main Jail. Allison was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
