The KFC store located at 5850 Wiles Road was recently ordered to shut its doors and stop service following an inspection based on a customer complaint that uncovered several health violations.
On September 7, KFC was temporarily shut down after inspectors from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation discovered four violations during their visit, prompted by an anonymous complaint.
Among the most severe violations was the discovery of live, small flying insects in various restaurant areas, including the kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area, and bar area.
The report noted that inspectors observed live flying insects in various parts of the store, specifically, those seen flying and landing on the wall in the dry storage area, on the border between the men’s and women’s restrooms in the dining area, in the dining area, and near the soda beverage machine.
Inspectors also reported finding a live roach crawling on the wall at the main entry and exit door at the front of the restaurant, indicating the likelihood of an active roach infestation.
Among the most severe food safety violations noted by inspectors was the presence of inadequate time/temperature control for safety food procedures, precisely potato hash, which was being hot held at temperatures ranging from 106°F to 130°F, well below the required 135 degrees Fahrenheit for safe food storage.
The KFC outlet was temporarily closed to address and rectify the violations, and all issues will be inspected during a future inspection to ensure they have been adequately addressed and that KFC complies with health regulations.
