A domestic dispute between a couple at an apartment complex led to a Coconut Creek man facing charges of attempted felony murder.
On November 4, the Coconut Creek Police Department responded to a call from the Banyan Bay Apartment Homes at 4303 W Atlantic Blvd.
A woman reported that her live-in boyfriend, later identified as Daniel Edsel Blake, 53, of Coconut Creek, had threatened her with a firearm, even pulling the trigger multiple times.
According to CCPD, the incident began as a verbal argument over household matters, including a dispute over how Blake fed the victim’s dog. It then intensified when the victim, concerned about Blake’s threats to cut off the apartment’s electricity, asked him to leave the shared residence.
After leaving briefly to avoid further escalation, the victim returned to the apartment accompanied by a friend who waited in the car. Upon re-entering, the argument resumed, and according to the victim, Blake took out a black semi-automatic handgun, aimed it at her face, and allegedly pulled the trigger twice, producing an audible “click.”
According to the victim, she fled from the apartment as Blake pursued her down the stairs. As she neared the parking lot, where her friend was waiting in the car, she reportedly heard a gunshot.
Witnessing the incident from his vehicle, the friend confirmed seeing Blake raise his arm and fire the gun before fleeing back to his apartment. Another resident heard the gunshot and witnessed Blake place the firearm in his waistband.
Records show when a neighbor confronted Blake about the noise, he reportedly admitted to firing a gun, laughing as he acknowledged the action.
Police detained Blake and recovered a firearm from the apartment’s patio closet. Although he denied discharging the weapon, he admitted ownership of a similar firearm.
Blake was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Following his arrest, Blake was charged with attempted felony murder.
