Dr. Juliana Forero was appointed as the arts and culture programs manager of the Coral Springs Museum of Art in September, and she hopes to lead the museum toward success.
In her role, Forero manages the museum’s daily operations and oversees the city’s public art program. Her responsibilities include envisioning, strategizing, and implementing goals and objectives for the continued success of the museum and the community.
During her interview with Coral Springs Talk, Forero walked us through a gallery tour featuring the exhibit “Intersectionality.”
The exhibit portrays works from Kandy Lopez, a New Jersey native who uses a variety of media to depict perspectives, experiences, and cultures of communities of color, particularly Afro-Latino people.
Forero says supporting artists with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and media is essential to her, a value she shares with the city. Forero also looks for thought-provoking pieces to help the city’s program remain vibrant.
Forero holds a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia, and a master’s degree in arts administration, a Ph.D. in arts administration, and a certificate in museum studies from Florida State University.
Her work took her to The Bronx, Houston, Pompano Beach, and Pembroke Pines, where she learned various aspects of the business and became a jack of all trades.
In her new role, Forero hopes to keep the museum as a shining gem and cultural foundation in the community, but she also wants its influence, appeal, and visitor base to expand even further.
These initiatives include establishing partnerships with businesses, art organizations, and creators.
One way to do this, she said, is through the museum’s work with Art Basel in Miami. The organization recognizes Coral Springs’s museum as a cultural institution, which Forero says helps immensely with operations.
Forero said expanding the museum’s reach while being home to artists of diverse backgrounds and perspectives will continue to be her primary mission.
She said, “I look forward to building upon this strong foundation by creating and maintaining strong relationships within the arts community…I also look forward to ramping up our educational offerings special events, and attracting new members while enhancing the public image of the museum.”
