A Margate man wanted on charges of domestic violence and kidnapping has been taken into custody.
According to the arrest report, on September 10, officers from the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a distress call near the 2800 block of Forest Hills Boulevard after receiving 911 calls of a domestic violence assault in progress and the abduction of a child.
Records show the victim was traveling in a vehicle with Jaden Mede, 21, of Margate, her three-year-old, and a friend from the La Quinta Inn and Suites in Fort Lauderdale to Coral Springs when a heated argument erupted between the victim and her ex-boyfriend.
According to the victim, a physical altercation began inside the vehicle due to a fight over things Mede, the biological father of her child, had found on her phone.
The victim told officers Mede began striking her in the chest and face with a closed fist while in the moving vehicle, yet despite the physical attacks, she did not respond while they continued down University Drive.
Upon reaching their destination on Forest Hills Boulevard, the victim told officers she attempted to flee the vehicle to escape Mede’s aggression. Still, he prevented her escape by grabbing her by the shirt and her right arm.
The victim’s friend, also in the vehicle, intervened and helped the victim break free from Mede’s grasp. Both women fled from the car, leaving the child inside.
Medical records show the victim sustained bruising and scratches on her right forearm and face, with photographic evidence taken to document her injuries.
Mede allegedly attempted to lure the victim back to the vehicle by yelling that their child was still inside, but the victim, scared of further assault, stayed away. The victim’s friend rushed to her front door and had her mother call the police.
With law enforcement on the way, Mede immediately fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, a gray 2023 Hyundai Sonata, without the victim’s permission and with their child still inside.
The vehicle’s GPS location later revealed that it had been abandoned in a parking lot in Lauderhill near the 7800 block of Northwest 50th Street, where the Lauderhill Police Department subsequently recovered it.
Authorities used License Plate Reader cameras to track Mede’s vehicle as it was seen driving northbound near the 1100 block of State Road 7. This tip led investigators to Mede’s residence in Margate near the 6700 block of Northwest 8th Street, where detectives observed him exiting and re-entering the Margate address. At the same time, they continued their search for the abducted child.
On September 11, Mede was taken into police custody on a litany of charges, including domestic violence, kidnapping, violation of a court-issued injunction, and orders of past issues with control and contact with the child.
Mede was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. The arrest report does not indicate the status of the kidnapped child.
