The Coral Springs Police Department, in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is launching a comprehensive Work Zone Safety Campaign to enhance safety for workers and pedestrians in roadway construction areas.
The campaign runs periodically from December 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025, and aims to reduce vehicle-pedestrian crashes and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
According to a statement from FDOT, officers from the Coral Springs Police Traffic Unit will be stationed in and around designated work zones throughout the city. These uniformed officers will focus on educating drivers about safe driving practices in construction areas and issuing citations to those who fail to comply with state laws.
Work zones often involve workers, heavy equipment, and lane closures, which present unique hazards. These areas demand heightened driver attention to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
According to FDOT, while work zone fatalities account for about three percent of overall traffic fatalities and two percent of serious injuries, proactive measures like this campaign are essential to maintaining safety and minimizing risks.
This effort is part of FDOT’s “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” campaign, a statewide initiative emphasizing traffic safety and awareness. The Coral Springs Police Department urges drivers to remain vigilant, adhere to posted signs and detours, and prioritize safety in work zones.
