The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division has announced that it will be undertaking major bridge rehabilitation work on Coral Springs Drive over the West Outfall Canal in Coral Springs.
The work is set to begin on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, and is expected to be completed by August 2023, subject to any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays. The project is funded by the gas tax.
The recommended repairs identified by the Florida Department of Transportation will use an innovative deck-strengthening design and construction method developed by HBMD. This method, which is one of the first of its kind in Florida, will help to improve the longevity of the structure while minimizing the impact of the construction work on the public.
The work will primarily be done on the underside of the bridge, reducing the need for lane closures and allowing for access to businesses, residences, and sidewalks to be maintained throughout the project.
During the construction period, lane closures will be in effect for less than a month to allow for waterproofing and resurfacing of the bridge deck. However, at least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times, and various signs will be posted to warn motorists and pedestrians of any changes or potential hazards.
