Less than a week after winning the Big-Eight Championship, the Coral Springs Charter softball team took home a District Title on Wednesday against Western High School.
“We played a complete game, which is always nice this time of year,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “You have to put the ball in play against Cardinal Gibbons, and the girls did a spectacular job of doing that tonight.”
The Panthers came in as the top team in the District and beat Pine Crest 10-0 behind a combined no-hitter from Courtney Wahlbrink, Gia Schirripa, and Jordin Shurpin. They struck out seven while scoring a run in all five innings. They began with five in the first and received a pair of RBIs from Gio Gugel, Stephanie Basso, Kate Maston, and Cam Thiele. Gurgel hit the lone home run with Addison Michel and Kayleigh Cuccia plating runs.
CSC then picked up another 10-0 win in the final after Courtney Wahlbrink tossed six strong innings. She allowed two hits and stuck out seven, while Thiele finished with a game-high two RBIs. Michel, Sacca, Gurgel, Heather Robertson, and Cuccia all knocked in one to improve the others to 24-3 this year. They will wait to see who they will play in Regionals after making it to last year’s final before losing extra innings.
