Coconut Creek leaders continue reviewing the MainStreet project.
During the April 25 meeting, the commission discussed block one, which will contain 104 units, including villas and townhomes. After a long discussion, they agreed to approve the plan but tabled the site plan until the May 9 meeting.
Scott Backman, who represents MainStreet, gave a presentation on the project and said it will include townhomes and villas. The villas will be in buildings with four and five units and no garages. Residents will have access to a wetlands area, a linear park, and pedestrian and bicycling trails.
During the meeting, Commissioner Joshua Rydell said he believed that more review was needed to ensure that homes being planned for block one were up to the standards of luxury development and that it should not be fast-tracked.
“This project is the most important one in the history of Coconut Creek and this is the anchor of MainStreet,” he said.
Rydell also expressed concern about the security of mailboxes and the prevention of mail theft in the development. He also stressed the importance of a full amenity package.
MainStreet at Coconut Creek will be located north of Sample Road, west of Lyons Road, south of Wiles Road, and east of State Road 7. Block one is located on the northeast corner of the project at the intersection of Cullum Road and Lyons Road.
According to the MainStreet website, it is planned for a 200-acre mixed-use development that will include housing, restaurants, and stores. The development will also include park areas, a playground, a fitness center, and a large plaza area for events and gatherings.
