Anna Mariono {Middle} honored on Senior Night. {CSC Soccer}

Florida Gulf Coast University has landed a star with the commitment of Anna Mariano from Coral Springs Charter.
The senior has always dreamt of playing soccer on the big field and feels like she has won the race.
“To feel committed feels like an accomplishment of all the hard work that I have put into being the soccer player that I am today,” Mariano said. All the hours on the field, all the long games, all the hardships suddenly feel like it’s all worth it in the end,”
Mariano began playing soccer when she was eight with Coral Springs Rec and their travel program Coral Springs United. She also played at Boca United, Florida United, and is currently with Team Boca.
She won a championship with the CSC Middle School team and played varsity for three years. During those years, the Panthers won 36 games and made Regionals every year. Mariano recorded 39 goals and 12 assists.
Her coach Kristin Grassi called her an exciting player to watch with breakout speed and technical talent.
“She has also developed real leadership and communication skills,” Grassi said. “Anna has been working hard for a long time for this, and I’m so happy that she received the opportunity she was looking for. It will be exciting to watch her journey unfold at FGCU.”

When looking for where to play in college, Marinao wanted to remain in the state and loved what FGCU had to offer. Not only is their soccer team consistently in the NCAA Tournament, but she is also interested in journalism and hopes to eventually work as a news anchor or be involved in TV production.
Before going to FGCU, Mariano hopes to improve her fitness and build herself up for the next level.
“I’m going to have to compete for playing time against grown women that are in their twenties, so that’s definitely gonna be a change from playing with girls my age now competing with grown women,” Mariano added.
She is set to graduate from CSC and will play with FGCU after the team won the A-Sun Conference and appeared in the NCAA Tournament last year.
