Coconut Creek High School boys and girls track and field took first place on April 4 during Senior Night.
The Cougars competed against Monarch and Piper High School. At the same time, Joshua Anderson, Juan Carlos Arocho, Ry’Carri Dailey, Gavin Dorvil, Terrance Fuller, Diego Maldonado, Weds Mathurin, Daniel Morant, Davari Morris, Thajuan Whyte, Jamarri Wright, Joshua Yearby, and Beriah Fevrier were honored.
Jermaine Gordon, Hyajah Miller, Diego Maldonado, Godson Sinelien, and Anderson won individual events, while Hyajah Miller, Godson Sinelien, Jermaine Gordan, and Joshua Yearby won the 4 x 100 relay. Davari Morris, Miller, Yearby, and Gordan took first in the 4 x 400 relay, along with Anderson, Morris, Terrance Fuller, and Hyajah Miller won the 4 x 800 relay. Morris, Fuller, Benjamin Duverna, Yearby, and Juan Carlos Arocho placed second.
Selene Adams won the 100 and 200 meters for the girls, Jayda Washington won two events, and Ruth-ann Powell, Layla Lawrence, Kahlia Exantus, and Amira Robillard won.
Coconut Creek also won all four relay teams, with Jalen Bennet, Janelle Bennett, and Adams winning the 4 x 100 relay. Washington, Jalen, Bennett, and Powell finished first in the 4 x 400, and Stephaine Bien-Amie, Amira Robillard, Powell, and Exantus won the 4 x 800 relay.
They competed again in the Flying L Alumni Last Chance Meet on Sunday, with the boys finishing 18th overall out of 24 schools and the girls placing 17th. Godson Sinelien recorded points for the Cougars in the 100 meters and javelin, along with four relay teams.
Coconut Creek is also off to a good start in boys’ volleyball. They already have four wins this year, with victories over Plantation, Highlands Christian, Boyd H Anderson, and Northeast High School. The baseball team also won in their last game against Hallandale High School. Despite only having eight players, the Cougars won 6-4 for their third win of the season after beating Stranahan and Miramar High School earlier this year.
The girl’s flag football team also has three wins this year. Their victories came over Monarch, West Broward, and Northeast High School. They will have two more games before the start of the District Tournament.
