12 Coral Springs Athletes Selected to Off-Season Showcases and All-Star Games

While high school basketball season may be over, 13 student-athletes from Coral Springs were selected to compete in showcases.

J.P. Taravella basketball stars Jordan Pratt and Sam Smith are set to play in the sixth Annual Sunshine State Premier Senior Games on March 12 in Fort Lauderdale.

Pratt led the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game. He also averaged two steals, helping JPT reach the District Semifinals under first-year Head Coach Erik Kapel. The Trojans went 18-8 this year and won the Lake Worth Christian Shootout. Smith averaged nearly ten points per game and 5.5 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent from the field.

“Pratt was the epitome of consistency,” said Head Coach Erik Kapel. “I only wish I could have had more time to coach him because the amount of growth he had in one year was truly impressive. Sam always showed up in the big games. When he’s locked in, he’s the most talented player on the court.”

Noah Yehya will also be playing from Coral Springs High School after the Colts went 14-9 this season. The Senior averaged 11.3 points per game and shot 38 percent from the three.

Lily Meriser and Jadeja Franck competed in the BCAA All-Star Game for JPT girls soccer. Merisier finished second on the team in goals with seven and had four assists helping JPT reach the District Final. Josefine Majdoch was the lone player selected from the girls soccer team at Coral Springs High School after her terrific four-year varsity career, while Sebastian Guzman played for the boys team.

Goaltender Simon Utrera was picked from the Coral Glades boys soccer team. He played in 15 games, allowed only 14 goals, and made 62 saves. Nina Blatz represented the girls soccer team after they won five games under first-year coach Giovanni Bido.

All three seniors from the Coral Springs Charter girls soccer team competed in the BCAA All-Star Game, including FGCU commit Anna Mariano was named MVP. Lynnae Varkala and Daniella Mersch, while these three players combined to score 23 goals this year as CSC went 12-5-1 and reached Regionals. Christian Deleon represented the boys team after they went 7-12-1 this year.
