A woman faces felony assault charges after allegedly punching a driver in a Target parking lot.
On September 23, a Coral Springs woman reported an alleged battery incident to the Coral Springs Police Department.
According to the police report, the victim told officers that the assault took place in the parking lot of the Target Super Store located at 9600 Westview Drive.
The victim told CSPD about the dispute between herself and another driver, later identified as Jennifer Paras, 50, of Coral Springs. She claimed the disagreement stemmed from a near-collision in the parking lot as Paras backed out of a parking space.
The victim told law enforcement that she was driving toward the parking lot exit when she noticed a pickup truck reversing out of a parking space. The truck’s driver, Paras, appeared to be using her cellphone, so the victim said she honked her horn to alert Paras of their impending collision.
Records show the victim told CSPD that Paras took offense to her honking her horn at her and reportedly put her car in park and engaged in a verbal confrontation.
The victim said she honked her horn again out of frustration, which further angered Paras, who then exited her truck and approached the victim—seated in her vehicle’s driver’s seat—and punched her in the face.
A witness who was present in the parking lot corroborated the victim’s account, telling officers she observed Paras confronting the victim before striking her. Additionally, the victim’s daughter, seated in the front passenger seat, confirmed her mother’s version of events.
Records show the victim sustained minor injuries to the left side of her face.
Paras was located at her home and arrested. CSPD transported her to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $20,000 bond.
