After evading authorities for over two months, a Coral Springs man has been taken into custody and charged with multiple crimes, including fleeing law enforcement.

Daniel Ivanhoe Levy, 27, of Coral Springs, was arrested at his home on October 7, ending a dramatic chain of events that began with a routine traffic stop on July 30.

According to a record of an incident on the night of July 30, the ordeal with Levy began after an officer from the Coral Springs Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North University Drive and Westview Drive. The visit was due to an expired license plate, which was nearly a year out of date.

Upon initiating the traffic stop, the officer detected a strong odor of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. He approached the car, introduced himself as a police officer, and requested the driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance from Levy.

Records show the incident matters took a turn for the worse when the officer spotted the frame of a black handgun inside Levy’s glove box while reaching for the vehicle registration. He immediately ordered Levy to close the glove box and place his hands on the steering wheel.

Despite these instructions, Levy continued to fidget and disobey orders, causing the officer to become increasingly concerned for his safety. The situation escalated when Levy changed the gear from park to drive while refusing to communicate with the officer.

At this point, Levy fled the traffic stop, speeding through the Magnolia Shoppes Plaza until officers eventually lost visual contact.

During the traffic stop, Levy had left behind his Florida driver’s license, which was in the officer’s possession, making it possible for authorities to identify him and issue warrants for his arrest.

After more than two months on the run, Coral Springs Police tracked down Levy at his residence located near the 8600 block of Northwest 35th Street and arrested him without further incident on October 7

Levy now faces multiple charges, including fleeing from a police officer, obstruction without violence, driving with an expired tag for more than six months, and failing to provide proof of insurance and registration.

Levy was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
