A Walmart employee was arrested and charged with grand theft after his co-workers discovered he had been operating an elaborate scheme to defraud the store of thousands of dollars.

On March 12, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a call regarding a grand theft crime at the Walmart at 3801 Turtle Creek Dr with a current employee, the alleged suspect.

Upon arrival, the police report states officers met with a loss prevention officer who told them he had been observing an employee, later identified as Angelo Santos Dangalan, 19, of Margate, systematically defrauding Walmart through a variety of employe-only known codes used at the cash register to discount products to much less than their actual retail price.

According to the employee, the loss prevention team had noted numerous cases where Dangalan would log into a Walmart register and use the “price override” feature to change the prices of items lower than the retail price.

The report shows Walmart received a provable total loss of $3,157.41 during the past month alone. The items involved in this case were primarily high-dollar electronics and some grocery items.

According to the arrest report, the loss prevention team provided a large file folder documenting every time Dangalan fraudulently used the price override feature. The file included 11 incidents, which were scanned and uploaded as evidence.

While on the scene, the police report shows officers reviewed multiple videos that showed Dangalan concealing items, changing the prices, and staging items for later theft during the above-listed dates.

The report shows upon an interview with officers, Dangalan admitted to his wrongdoing and expressed regret, stating that he succumbed to peer pressure. However, he declined further questioning.

Dangalan was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
