A 31-year-old Tamarac man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Saturday, authorities said.
Mark Emory Harmon, of the 8000 block of Northwest 68th Terrace, crashed while riding a 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000L motorcycle westbound on West McNab Road, part of a group of motorcycles riding together, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle left the roadway and drove onto the sidewalk shortly before 12:44 a.m., investigators said. Harmon and the motorcycle then struck a concrete light pole, according to BSO.
The impact was so severe the concrete light pole was severed at the base, investigators said. The largest intact portion of the motorcycle came to rest in the grass lot of a nearby church. Harmon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed is considered a contributing factor in the crash, according to BSO.
Detectives with the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating.
