A Margate restaurant has been ordered closed following a food safety inspection that revealed multiple violations, including clear signs of an ongoing active roach infestation.
Health officials ordered Shalamas Rotishop, located at 1432 North State Road 7 in Village Plaza, closed on April 24th following an inspection that revealed multiple health and safety violations.
The inspection resulted in the restaurant being cited for six critical infractions, including roach activity. Inspectors reported finding live roaches behind a hand wash sign at a sink in the kitchen’s washing and prep area.
Additionally, dead roaches were discovered inside control devices under a two-door stainless steel cooler in the kitchen’s prep area.
The restaurant also received poor marks for general cleanliness and maintenance issues. Inspectors noted in the report that nonfood-contact surfaces were soiled with an accumulation of grease, food debris, dirt, slime, and dust, particularly the hood filters above the cooking area.
One of the more severe violations noted during the inspection was the lack of running water at a handwash sink in the prep area.
The health department also cited the restaurant for expired required employee training and potential lapses in maintaining food safety standards.
The restaurant will remain closed until it passes a follow-up inspection and the issues raised in the report are resolved.
