Two affectionate American Staffordshire Terrier mixes are waiting for families to give them a second chance at Broward County Animal Care, where both dogs can be adopted for just a $25 Broward County registration tag fee.
Seven-year-old Tatum, a 55-pound spayed female, has been winning over staff and visitors since arriving as a stray in April.
Described as one of the shelter’s sweetest senior dogs, Tatum is known for her affectionate personality and eagerness to meet new people. Shelter staff says she happily approaches anyone willing to offer a few pets and recently impressed volunteers during a community engagement event with children ranging from elementary through high school age. She calmly greeted the children, enjoyed the attention and showed a gentle temperament throughout the visit.
Despite being a senior dog, Tatum still has plenty of energy. She enjoys playing, is housebroken and would benefit from leash training, as she tends to pull during walks. She is already spayed, vaccinated and microchipped, allowing her to go home with an adopter the same day.
Also searching for a forever home is Mollie, a 4-year-old, 50-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix who arrived at the shelter as an injured stray in late May.
Shelter staff describes Mollie as calm, gentle and friendly, making her an excellent choice for a variety of households. She walks well on a leash, knows how to sit and give her paw on command, and appears to be housebroken.
Mollie also has a playful side. She enjoys treats and is known for “splooting” — stretching out on her belly with her back legs extended behind her while relaxing.
Before going home with her new family, Mollie will be spayed, vaccinated for rabies and microchipped.
Both dogs are available for adoption at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 S.W. 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All pets adopted from Broward County Animal Care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters pay only the $25 Broward County registration tag fee.
