Two rehab escapees were caught tampering with monitoring devices in a restaurant after being reported by patrons.
On November 11, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to reports of two suspicious individuals, later identified as Roberto Antonio Reyes, 26, of Port Charlotte, and Stephanie Sanders, 30, of Hollywood.
The pair had entered Wings Plus at 9880 West Sample Road, cut off their ankle monitors, and fled eastbound on West Sample Road.
As officers approached the scene, they spotted a male running towards City Hall, matching Reyes’s description. Officers detained Reyes in the parking garage of 9500 West Sample Road.
Upon interview, Reyes explained to officers that he was undergoing rehabilitation at the Broward Addiction Recovery Center located at 3275 Northwest 99th Way and wanted to leave, so he, along with Sanders, fled the facility.
Simultaneously, additional officers responding to the location detailed his pursuit of Sanders. According to records, officers spotted her in the vicinity of 3500 North University Drive and began attempts to detain her.
The report shows that Sanders attempted to hide between a tree and a bush, but officers were able to spot her, ordered her to exit the shrubbery, and took her into custody.
Following their arrests, officers recovered an ankle monitor linked to Sanders. Records show the monitor’s tamper alert was activated earlier in the day.
Both Reyes and Sanders were taken into custody and arrested for tampering with electronic monitoring devices. They were transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
