Baby on the Line: Pregnant Dispatcher Delivers Baby Girl Over the Phone

A pregnant Coral Springs dispatcher helped a father and his wife deliver their baby girl over the phone.

Just after noon Sunday at the Coral Springs Police Department, Dispatcher Jessica Quitoni was working her shift at the Communications Center when she answered a call for help. The 71-second call is one she will remember for the rest of her life.

The call starts at 12:29 p.m. with the father frantically telling Quitoni that his wife is pregnant and that they might not be able to make it to the hospital.

Dutifully, Quitoni, who is 37 weeks pregnant, can be heard typing on her computer throughout the 911 call, dispatching paramedics to the couple’s location while calmly trying to get the pertinent information. However, it didn’t take long for the situation to get intense:

Dispatcher: How far along is she?

Dad: 39 weeks – She feels something coming down.

Dispatcher: She feels something coming down? OK, do me a favor-

Dad: Her water broke.

Dispatcher: Her water broke? OK, That’s fine. Do me a favor, I’m gonna have her lay down right now. OK? Can you go and do that for me? Get her to lay down? Can you check?

Dad: The baby’s head is out! The baby’s head is out!

Dispatcher: The baby’s head is out? So, if the baby’s head is out, what you are gonna need to do to deliver it is support the baby’s head gently to prevent the baby from coming out too fast. OK? Do not push or pull on the baby.

Dad: The whole baby is out!

Dispatcher: The whole baby is out? OK. The whole baby is out. Alright!

Is it a boy or girl?

Dad: Girl. Girl!

Dispatcher: It’s a girl? Congratulations, I’m having a girl too. I’m 37 weeks. I’m right behind your wife, OK?

Dispatcher: So, the baby is out. It’s 12:33. I’m gonna mark it. 12:33, that baby girl was born. OK? Alright? I’m gonna let you go. I’m gonna let the paramedics take it from here, but Congratulations, Dad.

Throughout the conversation, Quitoni remained calm, cool and poised and her voice never changed.
