Coral Springs will soon have a second Popeyes for anybody craving chicken with a taste of Louisiana.
The new Popeyes Location, located at 10599-10667 W. Atlantic Boulevard, will tentatively open on Jan. 14 and occupy 2,145 square feet of formerly underused parking space in Cypress Run Marketplace and includes a drive-thru. The hours will be from 10:30 a.m. through 1 a.m. Monday through Sunday, according to city staff.
The new location follows the already-open location at Coral Square Mall, 9469 W. Atlantic Boulevard.
The city first discussed plans for the new location in June 2021, when Cypress Run, LLC, requested a conditional use approval and a special exception to the land development code to construct the fast-food restaurant. Both items came up for a city commission vote in Sept. 2021.
The conditional approval dealt with the general business operations. They include limiting truck deliveries to between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., equipping the drive-thru speaker box with volume control, and installing signage to notify patrons to refrain from playing loud music that could be heard from more than 50 feet away.
Other conditions established include signage requirements, landscaping and landscape buffers, and the completion of noise and traffic studies.
First opening in New Orleans in 1972, the restaurant offers Louisiana and creole-inspired dishes like spicy chicken, fried chicken, and fried shrimp. Popeyes has 209 locations in Florida and over 3,700 globally.
In August 2019, the restaurant chain received viral attention when it announced its new chicken sandwich. The popularity of the sandwiches caused the restaurant to run out of sandwiches within two weeks. That November, the sandwiches returned.
