The Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a brutal attack during a movie. The assault, caught on surveillance video, occurred over a disagreement on theater seating.
On July 10, just before 9:56 p.m., a 63-year-old male victim and his wife arrived at a movie theater at the AMC Pompano Beach Theaters at 2315 N. Federal Highway.
Upon entering the theater, the couple, who had VIP reserved seats, found them occupied by an unidentified male and female. According to initial investigations, the victim cordially requested the intruding pair to vacate their seats. Witnesses report that the request sparked hostility in the unidentified male, who immediately rose to confront the victim.
The situation escalated rapidly as the unidentified male aggressively approached the victim, forcing him to retreat and lose balance, eventually falling down the theater stairs. Surveillance footage documents the moment the confrontation turned violent, with the unidentified male seen towering over the 63-year-old victim and repeatedly punching him in the face.
Witnesses rushed to the victim’s aid, successfully pulling the assailant off him. The aggressor and his female companion swiftly exited the theater.
The elderly victim suffered multiple injuries to his head and face and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit is now releasing the surveillance video, hoping that public assistance can help identify the suspect involved in this heinous assault. They urge anyone with information about the assailant’s identity or any other details about the case to contact Detective Lacey Fitzpatrick at 954-601-5905.
