Meet Broward County Animal Care’s Pets of the Week: Lara and Auntie Anne Need Forever Homes

Lara and Auntie Ann are currently at Broward County Animal Care.

Two adorable pets at Broward County Animal Care are looking for their forever families, and they’re ready to bring love, companionship, and plenty of cuddles into the right home. Meet Lara, an affectionate American Staffordshire Terrier, and Auntie Anne, a charming Domestic Shorthair tabby.

Lara

Lara (A2355528), a 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier, has spent nearly a year at the shelter, patiently waiting for a loving family to take her home. This “potato-shaped” pup was found as a stray in Coconut Creek in April 2024, and since then, she has won the hearts of staff and volunteers alike.

Described as sweet, playful, and affectionate, Lara loves romping around in the play yards, soaking up the sunshine, and receiving pets and treats from her handlers. She is already spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped—meaning she’s ready to go home today.

Lara’s adoption also comes with an incredible perk: she is sponsored by The Pet Project, which means she will receive free food, vaccines, monthly preventatives, and reduced-cost medical care for the rest of her life.

Auntie Anne

Auntie Anne (A2177230), a 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair, first arrived at Broward County Animal Care as a tiny kitten before finding a home in 2022. However, in November 2024, she and her housemate were abandoned in a carrier outside the shelter.

Although Auntie Anne was quickly adopted, she was returned when she didn’t immediately bond with her new owner’s resident kitten. Now, she’s again looking for a family that will give her the time and patience she needs to adjust.

While Auntie Anne is a reserved girl, she has cohabitated well with other adult cats in the shelter’s free-roaming cat room. With a gentle introduction, she may do well with other pets in a home that allows her to settle in at her own pace. Like Lara, Auntie Anne is already spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped—meaning she, too, can go home today.
