The Margate Motion swim team and their coaches have achieved great success at the South Florida Recreational Swim League Winter Championship, competing among 420 swimmers ages 5-18 and returning home with a haul of impressive medals.
Held on Dec. 3, Galen Tortorella earned 2nd place in the Boys 13-14, 50-yard freestyle category. Juan Pelaez also had a strong performance, earning 2nd place in the boys 50-yard backstroke and 2nd place in the boys 100-yard individual medley.
But the real standout of the competition was Lisette Renta, who took home 1st place in the girls 15-18, 50-yard freestyle; 1st place in the girls 13-18, 100-yard butterfly; and 1st place in the girls 13-18, 100-yard individual medley.
Matteo DeClet also performed well, earning 2nd place in the boys 11 & 12, 50-yard freestyle; 2nd place in boys 11 & 12, 50-yard breaststroke; and 3rd place in boys 11 & 12, 100-yard individual medley.
Jalanah Deroze also had a strong showing, earning 3rd place in Girls 7-8, 25-yard backstroke.
