A man faces charges of using a computer to solicit and lure a child after an undercover sting operation conducted by the Coral Springs Police Department led to his arrest at a gas station where he planned to meet with a 14-year-old “girl” for sex.
Alfred Richard Mazzo, 46, of Deerfield Beach, was taken into custody at the Marathon gas station located at 9605 Westview Drive, where he was expecting to meet a minor for sex but was instead met by the Coral Springs Special Crimes Unit.
According to the arrest report, Mazzo initiated and engaged in sexually explicit chat communications with an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old girl on the social media application. In reality, the “girl” was an undercover detective.
During the chats, Mazzo repeatedly told the girl that he liked younger girls and asked if they could get together. When the girl told him she was only 14, Mazzo responded by saying he had never hung out with someone her age but found it “kinda hot.”
The report shows that throughout the days-long chats, Mazzo engaged in sexually explicit texts. Throughout his communication with the girl, Mazzon sent texts that read, “Do you like older men?” “I have lube and a condom,” “Wear a skirt or a dress,” and “I have a toy in my car.”
Mazzo even went so far as to instruct the girl to tell her mother that she would look at dresses for a wedding and ultimately suggested they meet at the Marathon gas station near the Regal Magnolia movie theater on Westview Drive.
While discussing a meeting place and time, Mazzo repeatedly texted, the girl, WELL THINK OF SOMETHING GOOD BECAUSE ILL GO TO JAIL LOL,” when she expressed nervousness about lying to her parents to meet him.
Coral Springs Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team detectives used the information obtained from Mazzo’s communication with the girl to locate and detain him without incident.
Upon searching Mazzo’s car, multiple condoms were found throughout the vehicle. The report indicates Mazzo was transported to the Special Victim’s Office and interviewed, where he admitted to engaging with the girl but insisted that he believed her to be an older woman engaging in role-play as a 14-year-old child.
During the interview, Mazzo went as far as to pass a note to detectives that apologized for what he deemed “a misunderstanding” and told them that he would have definitely checked the girl’s identification before she entered his vehicle.
Mazzo was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was later released after posting a $60,000 bond.
