N.I.C.K.’s ‘Learn to Skate’ program. {The Chiera Family Foundation}

Children undergoing chemotherapy for cancer were treated to a special experience learning to ice skate through the N.I.C.K.’s ‘Learn to Skate’ program, made possible by a generous grant from the Florida Panthers Foundation.
The Chiera Family Foundation of Coconut Creek organized the event, marking another milestone in their efforts to support children fighting cancer through various fundraising initiatives.
The Learn to Skate Program took place on June 3rd and 10th at the Florida Panthers Ice Den, located at 3299 Sportsplex Drive
A total of 22 children, accompanied by five adults, attended the program. Participants received N.I.C.K.’s Ice Skating sweatshirts and were provided with skate rentals. Expert coaching was delivered by the Ice Den. The second session concluded with a pizza party.
The Chiera Family Foundation, commemorating its 30th year, was established in memory of Nicholas Chiera, who succumbed to cancer nearly three decades ago. Operating under the guiding principle that “Nothing is Impossible for Cancer Kids” (N.I.C.K.), the foundation extends its support to young adults who have triumphed over cancer by granting them college scholarships.
Additionally, the organization helps children battling cancer attend summer camp and imparts valuable life lessons through its partnership with The First Tee of Broward, introducing golf as a means of empowerment and growth.
Renowned for its extensive fundraising programs, including summer camps, golf tournaments, ice skating events, and scholarships, the Chiera Family Foundation’s mission is to make a positive impact in the lives of children affected by cancer.
With the assistance of the Florida Panthers Foundation, they have successfully provided children, along with their siblings and friends, the opportunity to learn to skate amidst their hospital stays and treatments.
