This summer, Coral Springs student, Austin Passino, has been selected to participate in Envision’s Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Bethesda, MD.
Austin, 13, who attends New River Middle School’s Magnet Program for Marine Science, was nominated by his seventh-grade language arts teacher, Claudia Filimon.
The Junior National Young Leaders Conference, part of the Envision by WorldStrides family of programs, brings together exceptional middle school students nationwide for a unique academic and career development experience. The program aims to help students explore their interests and learn beyond the classroom.
In addition to being an active baseball player for the True Delray 13U Travel Team and a scuba diver, Austin is also an avid volunteer, particularly in the marine industry. He recently received a scholarship from the Marine Industries Association of South Florida for his submission during their Annual Waterway Cleanup held in March.
Austin’s passion for the marine industry led him to attend New River Middle School’s Magnet Program for Marine Science, where he hopes to become a marine biologist. He also recently started a YouTube channel called Ocean Tides Podcast to share his love for the maritime industry with others.
His parents, Jennifer and John, live in the Windings community, and while Austin was a student at Parkside Elementary, he was presented with magnet programs from Broward County Public Schools; Jennifer said, “he jumped at the opportunity for Marine Science as that is what he would like to pursue in college.”
Envision by WorldStrides has been empowering students for over 35 years, providing them with opportunities to explore their passions, discover new careers, and positively impact the world.
Austin hopes to study Marine Biology and play baseball at Florida Atlantic University.
