J.P. Taravella had one of its best weeks of the season, highlighted by the girls’ volleyball and cross country teams.
The girls’ volleyball team won a marathon match on Tuesday, beating Coconut Creek High School in five sets. The Trojans won 22-25, 26-24, 27-25, 14-25, and 15-12 to improve to 5-0 on the season. JPT previously had four wins this season, beating Dillard, Blanche Ely, Plantation, and Stranahan High School.
They went on to lose in three sets against Deerfield Beach High School and had their match against McArthur High School postponed. The Trojans will play Pembroke Pines Charter in their next match on Monday, September 30, at 4:30 p.m. The Jaguars are 8-6 this year and won in three sets last season.
The cross country team shined in the Northwest Area Schools XC Championships, with the boys finishing first at Tradewinds Parks in Coconut Creek. Three runners placed in the top six: Akeem Beckford, Scardy Fils, and Elijah Vessells. JahRee Pierre was the next Trojan to complete the race, coming in 19th, followed by Ali Mustafa and Saul Flores, Nakhai Reid, Kemoy Williams, Kurt Austin, and Elijah Porter-Hall.
The girls team finished fourth, with Raquel Arne placing fifth individually. Olivia Neal came in ninth, running alongside Giavanna Lionelli, Caileen Canales, Camille Castillo, and Meital Pavolotzky.
The boys’ golf team competed at the Country Club in Coral Springs for a golf matchup against Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Coral Springs Charter, and West Boca Raton Community High School.
The football team had their game against Coral Springs Charter postponed and will play Everglades High School in their next match on Tuesday, October 1, at 6 p.m. The swim team is preparing to race in the BCAA Championship on Saturday, September 26, after sending multiple swimmers to states over the past few seasons. The bowling team, led by Marvin Nixon, Zachery Kimbrell, and Bryce Collins, has also shined this year.
