High School Star Jayda Washington Competes in Junior Olympics

High School star Jayda Washington shined in the Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Washington, 16, is a junior at Coconut Creek High School and dual enrolled in the Applied Information Technology program at Atlantic Technical College. She competed in the 17-18 division in the long jump and placed 57th. She also competed in the javelin and came in 61st. Washington was a Regional Award Winner again for NCWIT and a National Finalist this year.

“Going to the Junior Olympics was eye-opening,” Washington said. “it made me realize I have a lot of potential in the sport, and if I continue working hard, my name will be written in the real Olympics. I spoke it into existence from the start of last school year and believed I could go.”

Washington was named NCWITAIC South Florida Affiliate winner last year. This award is given to girls in grades 9 through 12 who are active and interested in computing and technology and encourages them to pursue their passions. Washington trains with Coach Brown will continue to train with RUNITsports with coaches Courtney Gordon, Rob Parker, and Buddy Morgan.

She also trains with former college football star and NFL running back Tony Sands.

“Jayda was well focused on the goals she went after,” Sands said. “Her heart and desire to accomplish her dream of going to Junior Olympics were of the caliber of top athletes I have worked with, such as Michael Irvin, Al Harris, Brandon Powell, Deshawn Sands, Calvin Ridley, Alex Gladding, and Sandra Deck.”
