Coastal Waste and Recycling
Coastal Waste and Recycling will take over garbage and recycling collection duties for Coral Springs residents beginning Tuesday.
The company is replacing Waste Pro, which handled the city’s garbage hauling service from 2013 until Monday when its contract expired.
Coastal will collect solid waste, recyclables, yard waste, and bulk trash in Coral Springs. According to city records, Coastal’s new contract will earn the company $5 million a year and run through September 30, 2031. The contract includes two options for five-year renewals.
According to the city, the switch in providers will not disrupt service, but residents can expect some changes.
Starting this year, the hauler will not provide service on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, or on Christmas Day, December 25.
City officials also said the city’s Waste Transfer Station has expanded its hours to allow residents to drop off recycling every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The transfer station will also be open on the first Saturday and Sunday of every month to accept paint, fluorescent light bulbs, and electronic equipment, according to the city.
Officials said the city’s composting program will remain the same, with composting available on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The transfer station is intended for non-commercial use only. To access the property, you must present identification showing proof of Coral Springs residency.
For bulk trash pickup, Coastal will retrieve up to six cubic yards of bulk waste—roughly the size of six kitchen stoves or three refrigerators—once per week. According to the city, only two cubic yards of the six can be construction debris.
Officials said that if residents put out more than six cubic yards, their pile will not be hauled away.
Landscapers, tree trimmers, contractors, and similar service providers must haul away their own debris following a job completed at residents’ homes if the debris exceeds Coastal’s size limits.
The switch to Coastal came about after all the city’s contract renewal options with Waste Pro had been exercised, leading to a request for proposals.
City officials said Coastal, based in Boca Raton, won because it offered the lowest cost of services among the companies that submitted proposals.
