A Coral Springs man faces domestic battery charges following an incident where he allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend after she declined to have sex with him.
On November 4, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident near the 1000 block of Coral Ridge Drive.
According to the police report, the victim called 911 to report an altercation with her ex-boyfriend, later identified as David Cranston Lander, 33, of Coral Springs, after he allegedly had become physically abusive after discovering something on her phone.
Records show CSPD arrived at the scene and found Lander seated on a curb in the parking lot in front of his apartment. Upon interview, Lander admitted to being involved in a heated argument with the victim, whom he identified as his girlfriend.
Lander claimed to officers that the dispute escalated when he confronted the victim about a video he had discovered. He admitted to forcibly taking her cell phone and retreating to his bedroom and that when she followed him, he pushed her off the bed, causing her to fall.
However, the victim told a different account of the incident, which painted a more abusive picture. She explained that she and Lander had been in a sexual relationship for the past six months but had been living together since their breakup in September.
According to the victim, she was awakened by Lander masturbating in her room and confronting her about a compromising video. She claimed to officers that Lander threatened to release the video online if she didn’t engage in sexual activity with him.
She alleged to CSPD officers that Lander physically assaulted her, grabbing her cell phone, pushing her to the floor, and blocking her exit from the room.
The situation escalated when she escaped the apartment, with Lander reportedly chasing her outside without pants on, only relenting in his pursuit once she was able to get away and reached a safe distance from the building.
Lander was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
