A late-night assault inside a victim’s home leads to the arrest of a Miami man on charges of battery and prowling.
On March 18, a Coral Springs woman was physically assaulted inside her home and fought back against her attacker, Andrew “Andre” Maurice Penny, 42, leading to his eventual arrest.
The victim reported to Coral Springs Police that Penny pinned her down on her couch and forcefully placed his hands on her upper chest, refusing to let her leave. However, she managed to break free by hitting Penny with a glass object and kicking him.
Despite the victim’s escape, Penny returned later and caused significant damage to the victim’s front door with a baby stroller. Police conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate Penny at the time.
According to police, the victim reported later seeing Penny in her backyard and hearing loud bangs on her rear patio. Despite another prolonged search, police were once again unable to locate the suspect.
An officer in an unmarked vehicle staked out the home and, after 10-15 minutes, observed Penny approaching the victim’s front door, according to police.
The report shows Penny was attempting to conceal himself by crouching behind bushes and a parked vehicle, but the officer commanded him to the ground and detained him.
During the booking process, Penny denied the allegations of assault but was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions outside the home in the early morning hours. He was later released on a $1,800 bond but is banned from contacting the victim while the case is ongoing.
