To promote peace and unity, the City of Coral Springs is holding its International Day of Peace community celebration on Thursday, September 21.
Starting at 8 a.m., the event is set to take place at the picturesque International Peace Garden, located at 2855 Coral Springs Drive.
The International Day of Peace, recognized globally on September 21, was created in 1981 through a unanimous resolution by the United Nations. It offers a day for humanity to prioritize peace and contribute towards a peaceful global culture.
The annual celebration is held with the Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee and the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs, Parkland, and NW Broward, which aims to foster a collective moment of harmony and understanding within the community.
Attendees at the event can anticipate uplifting speeches by prominent community leaders. Furthermore, the talented students from Parkside Elementary School and the Coral Springs Charter School Choir will showcase their artistic and musical talent.
City Commissioner Nancy Metayer Bowen, who also serves as the Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee liaison, expressed her thoughts on the day’s significance.
“This celebration isn’t just about promoting peace within our community; it’s a powerful declaration of our unity and solidarity with the rest of the world. We ardently believe in fostering peaceful resolutions globally.”
Residents have a multitude of ways to immerse themselves in the spirit of peace:
- Making a dedicated Peace Day Pledge.
- Crafting an Imagine Peace Wish Tree by hanging a ‘wish for peace tag.’
- Designing Pinwheels for Peace for their yards.
- Donning white on September 21 as a mark of “Peace Across Broward Day.”
- Extending a Random Act of Kindness to someone in their vicinity.
Residents keen on downloading pinwheel designs or tree tag templates or making a pledge can visit the mentioned website. They can also share their peaceful creations using #CS4Peace on various social platforms or by emailing Lydia Cutz at lcutz@coralsprings.gov.
