Coral Springs Charter Posts Most Successful Week of the Season

Coral Springs Charter had its best week of the winter sports season.

The boys basketball team recorded their first win on Monday against Coconut Creek High School 50-44Despite being outscored 21-13 in the opening quarter, the Panthers cut the deceit to six at the break and scored 26 points in the second half to pull out the victory. Jurgen Meza led the way with 22 points, while Jalen McGregor had 13. Murillo Boata and AJ Peck scored six, with Michael Chin making his only three-pointer.

The Panthers previously lost their first 14 games of the season and were outscored by at least 11 in all of the games. CSC had lost their last 18 games to last season, with their last win coming against Don Soffer Aventura High School. Coconut Creek High School fell to 2-14 this year, and their only wins this year were against Somerset Academy South Homestead and Village Academy.

The Panthers held Senior Night on Wednesday against Pompano Beach High School but fell 50-34. CSC honored Dylan Corboda and Jalen McGregor, while Jurgen Meza finished with a team-high 1o points. McGregor added eight, with Chin scoring seven.

The game was tied at six after the opening eight minutes, and the Panthers only trailed by two at halftime before being outscored 33-19 in the second half.CSC will play Tradition Prep on Saturday, January 27, at 2 p.m. The Pirates are 9-10 this year but have won two of their last three games.

The girls basketball team won both games this week, including a 58-19 win over Coconut Creek High School. The Panthers beat Pompano Beach High School 67-10 on Tuesday to move to 11-4 this year and honored their lone senior, Isabella Ramos, before moving to 11-4.

NBP will play Saint Andrew’s School in their next game on Friday, January 26, at 6 p.m. The Scots are 1-5 this year and won 29-25 in their last game against American Heritage High School on Monday.

The boys soccer team won only one game all season but won their opening playoff game 2-1 against Chaminade Maddona High School on Wednesday. The Panthers entered the postseason as the fourth seed and received goals from Elijah McDonald and Enrique.

Alex Fosano, Jonathan Lupo, and Thomas Givens combined for four shots, with Connor Mackinlay-Barish making four saves in the net. CSC will play top-seeded NSU University in the semicolons on Friday, January 26, at 5 p.m. The Sharks are 12-2-2 and beat the Panthers 4-0 in their only meeting earlier this year.

The girls soccer team received a bye in the opening round of the postseason and will play third-seeded Pine Crest on Monday, January 29 at 7 p.m. CSC won 3-0 when these two teams played on December 7.

Elijah Perez and Preston Linday continued their success in wrestling this week. After going undefeated in their matches against South Broward, Miami Coral Park, and American Heritage High School, they won by pin again on Wednesday against Hollywood Hills High School and are a combined 66-18 this year. Head Coach Eric Perez was also proud of Zayne Sawar and said their hard work shows on the mats and is rubbing off on the younger kids on the team.

“The younger guys see, the older guys have success, and they know that it’s possible for them, and it motivates them to work harder and improve,” Perez said. ” As a coach, what else could you ask for.”

Next, CSC will compete in the Tri-County Tournament on January 26-27 at Olympic Heights Community High School.
