Coral Glades High School's Honor Society Delivers Valentine's Day Love to Seniors

Coral Glades High School students brought cheer to local seniors last weekend, spreading Valentine’s Day love and brightening their day.

The National Tech Honors Society at Coral Glades High School, led by Business Education/Computer Programming Teacher Tyler Ferro, spread Valentine’s Day love early this year with a visit to the residents of the Aston Gardens senior living community.

On February 10, Ferro and his students delivered handmade Valentine’s Day cards, played bingo, and distributed tulips to the seniors.

According to Ferro, residents lined up 30 minutes early to greet the students, and all were overwhelmingly excited about enjoying the day with the next generation of local leaders. He also shared that the visit was weeks in the making and a day the students were just as excited about as the residents they were visiting.

“We began talking about this service project back in December, looking for ways to give back,” Ferro told Coral Springs Talk, adding, “Valentine’s Day seemed perfect to show love and appreciation, and we chose Aston Gardens because we wanted the residents to feel loved, especially those who may not have frequent visits from family.”

According to Ferro, the idea of Valentine’s Cards and playing bingo seemed like the perfect way to connect and spread joy, knowing how much the residents enjoy bingo. He also shared that the resident’s excitement over winning bingo and receiving tulips and a touching instance where our Vice President, Giovanna Torres, tutored a resident in Spanish filled the day with memorable moments that will last the rest of the school year and beyond.

An original idea of the school’s VP of the Service Committee, Valentina Arango, and Executive Secretary, Wendy Bejleri, the students delivered over 100 cards to the Aston Gardens community.

Ferro says that the project wasn’t just about bringing joy to the residents; it also offered lessons in personal growth and social responsibility for the students involved.

“It showed us the importance of community engagement,” Ferro said. “It’s vital that students see service not as a chore but as a meaningful contribution that can make a difference in someone’s life.”

Ferro shares that the National Tech Honors Society is excited to continue its community involvement, with plans already in motion for future projects. “We’re discussing our next visit to Aston Gardens and other service opportunities,” Ferro shared.

“We’re excited about partnering with the City of Coral Springs for the ‘Keep Coral Springs Beautiful’ event and collaborating with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Our commitment to serving our community is stronger than ever, and we’re open to more opportunities to help.”
