Coconut Creek High School has only a few teams in action this fall, but one recorded a pair of key wins this past week.
The football team started the season 0-3 but picked up their victories against Boyd H. Anderson and Deerfield Beach. High School.
The Cougars played an extremely tough schedule earlier this year and nearly knocked off Cardinal Gibbons High School. They also lost Northwestern and Baylor High School. Next, Coconut Creek will play Atlantic High School on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles are 4-1 this year and rank as the 35th-best team in the State of Florida.
The girls’ volleyball team is set to play its final home match of the season on Monday, October 7, against Stranahan High School at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars are 1-9 this year, with their only win coming in five sets against Coral Springs High School earlier this year. The Mighty Dragons are 5-1 this year but lost against Coconut Creek last year.
The cross country team competed in the Northwest Area Schools XC Championships, with the boy’s team finishing sixth, led by Jeremiah Accius in 16th. Tyler Joseph came in the 20th while Woldy Mathurin, Benjamin Duverna, Darryl Pluviose, John Jacques, and Ahmad Hasan all raced. The girls only had two compete, with Layla Naves and Salaya Campbell finishing within three spots of each other.
Lyons Creek Middle School has shined in athletics this year, highlighted by its soccer and cross-country teams.
The girls soccer team had an incredible regular season and won the Division Championship. They then went on to beat William Dandy Middle School in their first playoff game and will play Westglades Middle School in the second round on Monday, Oct. 7 The boys team improved throughout the year but did not qualify for the postseason.
The middle school cross country team also ran in the Northwest XC Invite, with the boys finishing fifth, led by Hernley Valcourt. Corbin Thomas came in 19th, followed by Enrique Garcia, Donte Thomas, Elijah Louis, Donald Garcia, Camden Metott, and Daniel Pierre, all raced. The girls’ team finished in seventh place, with Dessarayne Sesti Starr recording the best time, followed by Ja’Meria Griffin, Thaina Silva, Niah Antoine, Jada Fulmore, and Sophia Ortega.
