Let’s say this supermarket surprised the hell out of me in an outstanding way.
I’d never been to Broward Meat & Fish before, so I had no high expectations of what I would see. A promising sign was when my wife and I walked in, and my buddy Martin Puia was leaving.
This Saint Thomas Aquinas High School Alumni and expert home BBQ chef knows excellent food. The first thing he told me is they have a great Asian section. I respect his opinion regarding food, so I was excited to check this joint out.
Into the doors we go, and all the angels in Margate sang to me. This place is beautiful! It looks nothing like that crappy stinky stank mess that was Penn Dutch, and thank god for that.
Lots of light, great music being pumped out thru the sound system, and an open floor plan. The store was immaculate, and all the employees we chatted with were extremely friendly and helpful.
The seafood and meat sections blow away any supermarkets where I live in Coral Springs.
The Army Veteran working the seafood section told me you could buy a whole fish, and they will filet it any way you wanted. Again I can’t tell you how clean his station was. It smelled like a pristine ocean with no foul odors, just pure fresh fish heaven. Very impressive.
I bought 5 pounds of snow crab for about 16.99 a pound—nice size clusters with plenty of meat.
This type of supermarket is why you live in South Florida. Almost every culture from Argentina to Zimbabwe is represented. I’ve never seen so many ethnic foods and items being sold in one store. It was a joy to see.
The prices are excellent too. Ninety-nine cents a pound for chicken wings, 12 brisket blend burgers for 11, and change; the list goes on and on. They offer weekly food specials like BOGO ground beef that you must keep an eye out for.
Oh yeah, you need that colossal paella pan. They sell it. How about a cool-looking dominoes table? They got it. Making Indian and need a tandoori-style plate? They have them too.
The word on the street is they will be adding an Italian and Jewish food/item section too. I can’t wait for that to happen.
Verdict
With prices for almost everything being so high, it is fantastic we have an option like Broward Meat and Fish Plus in our hood. Supermarkets like these keep Publix, Winn Dixie, and Walmart on their toes. As a customer, competition between them benefits us. I can tell you all this; I’ll be shopping here a lot more.
If you haven’t been, I highly suggest stopping in. You may love what you see.
