Broward Orchid Supply & Service is hosting a series of orchid classes at the Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital in Coral Springs starting June 1.
The classes, priced at $40 each, will be held on three consecutive Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each session is limited to 30 participants, and pre-registration is required.
The series kicks off on June 1 with “Orchid Basics,” aimed at newcomers to orchid cultivation. Attendees will learn how to select the right plants for their environment and understand the essentials of orchid care, including water, light, fertilizer, and temperature needs.
On June 8, the focus shifts to “Orchid Repotting & Mounting.” Participants will discover the proper frequency for repotting orchids, explore various potting media, and learn how to choose the right pot or basket. The class will also cover techniques for mounting orchids on materials like tree fern or cork.
The final class on June 15, “Training Your Eye: Problems We Encounter – Orchid Pests and Diseases & Cures,” will educate attendees about common pests and diseases that afflict orchids. From bacterial and fungal rots to insects like thrips, scale, snails, and spider mites, participants will learn how to identify and combat these issues to ensure their orchids thrive.
In addition to the instructional sessions, orchid supplies will be available for purchase at each class.
The Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital is located at 3000 Sportsplex Dr, Coral Springs, Florida. For more information and to register, visit the Sawgrass Center.
