The Northwest Regional Library is set to host the I Can Living and Learning Center Resource Fair, an event to connect individuals with special needs and disabilities to local organizations offering valuable resources and services.
The Resource Fair, which will be held on July 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Northwest Regional Library, located at 3151 North University Drive, promises to be a valuable experience for those with special needs that are seeking to learn more about the resources available to them.
Recognizing the lack of awareness among individuals with special needs regarding services, the fair organizers are determined to bridge this knowledge gap.
“We have found that many of the people we work with have no idea of the variety of services available to them,” Alison Alberti, Co-founder of the I Can Living and Learning Center, the non-profit organization sponsoring the event, tells Coral Springs Talk.
“We hope to increase awareness of resources and opportunities.”
Alberti shares that the organization is a non-profit that has been serving persons with disabilities for over seven years. The program has consistently teamed with the Department Of Vocational Rehabilitation to help assist persons with disabilities in finding and keeping employment.
The upcoming Resource Fair aims to empower attendees by providing them with relevant information that can significantly improve their quality of life and foster their participation in the community.
“We hope attendees can gather information relevant to them and help improve the quality of their lives and become more involved in the community,” Alberti said.
“Many times, the special-needs community feels isolated and unsure how to get involved in social activities and groups.”
Event organizers tell Coral Springs Talk that not only is the Resource Fair an open-to-the-public and free-to-everyone event, but they’re also still accepting applications from organizations that wish to be a part of the Resource Fair — at no cost.
While the list of those attending continues to grow, a diverse range of vendors has already committed to being showcased at the Resource Fair. Most importantly, all those in attendance aim to cater to individuals with physical and emotional disabilities.
Mental health professionals, social groups, Broward County Parks and Recreation, and organizations serving the deaf community will also be present.
“We hope this is a great opportunity for local organizations to work together to refer clients to each other to better educate this community about services and resources available to them,” Alberti said.
