Coconut Creek High School had three varsity teams record their first win of the season this week.
The baseball team dominated on Thursday to win their first game against Stranahan High School. The Cougars won 19-0 and moved to 1-2 this year after Coconut Creek scored 12 runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second. Shamal Fredricks allowed one hit in three innings before the game was called due to the run rule. The Cougars previously fell to Piper and Coral Glades High School.
Next, Coconut Creek will play Miramar High School on Thursday, March 9, at 3:45 p.m. The Patriots are 0-3 this year and have been outscored 59-9 through their first three games, but they won 7-1 in the only meeting last season against Coconut Creek.
The boys volleyball team from Coconut Creek also picked up 25-7, 25-15, and 25-7 for their first win. The Cougars went 8-7 a season ago and will play Pembroke Pines Charter in their next game on Tuesday, February 14, at 4:30 p.m. The Jaguars lost in five sets in their first match this year after winning five games a season ago.
The flag football team beat Monarch High School 7-0 in their first game, with Jaelyn Housey scoring the only touchdown. Coconut Creek followed that up with a 36-6 win over West Boca Raton Community High School 36-6.
Housey shined again at quarterback with a touchdown pass to Jaylyn Bennett and 110 yards rushing. Taylor Dorsett threw for 113 yards, and Aiyana Borden, Brishana Hamilton, Nejma Robinson, and Bennett all had rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, Tyaunna Pearman led the team with six stops defensively. Special Pitts, Jadha Sunderland, Yachell Dawkins, Devonique Thompson, and Dkayla Parfait shined defensively.
Next, Coconut Creek will play Northeast High School on Thursday, March 16, at 4:30 p.m. The Hurricanes lost 39-0 in their first game this year but beat the Cougars 12-6 last year for one of their three wins.
Coconut Creek boys basketball also had two players selected to the BCAA All-Star Game in, Darien Woody and Donovan Stormbridge, after helping the Cougars win five games. In contrast, Troy Bitetto while Taylor Dorsett was selected from the girls basketball team.
The Monarch boys volleyball team beat Miramar High School in three sets to move to 1-0 for the second straight season. The Knights won three matches last year and are set to play Everglades High School on Monday, March 13, at 4:30 p.m. after going 9-6 a season ago.
The girls flag football team defeated Somerset Academy 6-0 after winning four games a season ago. The Knights dropped their next two games and will play McArthur High School on Tuesday, February 14, at 5:30 p.m.
Monarch also had a pair of basketball players selected to the BCAA All-Star Game in Troy Bitetto and Peter Sziran, after the Knights won five games a season ago.
