A man was arrested and faces DUI and hit-and-run charges after fleeing the scene of a crash in Margate and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase.
On June 23, the Margate Police Department was involved in a high-speed chase of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that occurred near the intersection of Southwest 64th Terrace and Southwest 7th Street.
According to MPD records, a chaotic series of events began after the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Ulises Miguel Molina, 45, of North Lauderdale, collided with a car from behind, causing significant damage and injuries.
Rather than stop his vehicle, records show Molina fled the scene, heading westbound on Southwest 7th Street.
A responding officer that had stopped to attend to the collision immediately relayed a description of Molina’s vehicle over the radio, alerting other officers in the area.
After a brief pursuit, MPD located Molina erratically driving and swerving across lanes near Kathy Lane.
Molina reportedly refused to pull over after officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, and a higher-speed chase ensued that included both MPD units and unmarked vehicles speeding southbound on Rock Island Road.
Out of caution for the public’s safety, officers discontinued the pursuit, allowing only unmarked units to maintain visual contact with Molina as he continued to avoid capture.
According to the report, law enforcement observed Molina stopping at the corner of Southwest 56th Avenue and Southwest 10th Street.
Unmarked police vehicles surrounded Molina’s car, while MPD arrived on the scene and positioned their vehicles strategically to block his escape.
As Molina exited his vehicle, officers on the scene commanded him to get on the ground. Still, Molina refused and was eventually taken to the ground by officers, resulting in a minor laceration to the top of his nose.
During his arrest, it was discovered that Molina does not possess a valid driver’s license in Florida or any other state.
Upon further interaction with Molina, it became clear that he showed several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, glossy red eyes, the odor of alcohol, and poor balance.
Molina reportedly admitted to officers that he had been drinking but claimed to have only consumed two beers. He was subsequently charged with DUI, hit-and-run, and fleeing law enforcement.
Officers transported Molina to Northwest Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Following medical clearance, he was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
