The J.P. Taravella baseball team made another run to regionals this season despite facing several challenges along the way. The track and field team continued to shine, and the football team held their spring game.
After going 15-11 in the regular season against one of the toughest schedules in Broward County, the Trojans lost in their first game in Districts 6-0 against Western. Still, JPT qualified and faced second-seeded West Broward in their opening Regional Game but fell 10-0 despite six hits. JC Martinez finished with two, while E.J. Burns, Anthony Quigley, Jake Miller, and Peyton Morgan all had one.
Quigley had a team-high of three home runs. Martinez had two, while Jonathan Lopez recorded one. Lopez also led the team in hitting, with Quigley and Burns also hitting over .300. On the mound, Burns and Anthony Tizol both had four wins, with Javier Miranda picking up two.
The Trojans will graduate five players: Burns, Quigley, A.J. Perry, Javier Miranda, and James Lacey. Burns will play college baseball at Florida Gulf Coast University, and Quigley will attend the University of South Florida. Miranda, Burns, and Perry were all selected to the BCAA All-Star Game for baseball, while Katelyn Austin and Nevaeh Maye competed in flag football.
The J.P Taravella boys’ team did their best work in the triple jump, with T’Yquez Jenkins coming in second at Regionals and then 16th at State. Scardy Fils, Elijah Vessells, Akeem Beckford, and Ali Mustafa came in seventh in the 4 x 800 relay, while Maleek Lubin finished tenth in the high jump.
Ajah Arscottt shined again and came in second in the 100 meters, fourth in the 400 meters, and fourth in the 4 x 400 relay with Taijah Taylor, Qyrah Spann-Pierre, and Kiana Taylor for the girls. U’Myri Bain came in third in the triple jump, with Katelyn Tenn placing fifth in the long jump and Taijah Taylor finishing sixth in the high jump. Aleah Marriott, Kiana Taylor, Spann-Pierre, Taijah Taylor, and Kiana Taylor came in the top ten. Arscottt then came in fourth at State in the 100 meters and seventh in the 400 meters.
The J.P. Taravella football team was shut out in their game against St. Brendan but headed into the new season with Clyde Parry as their coach. Despite the loss, Parry was pleased with his team’s effort and feels like they have a chance to have a bounce-back season after winning only one game in 2022 and 2023. JPT will open the season on August 23 against Everglades High School.
